Why blog? What do we get out of this?
Reading, writing and communicating - are all beneficial reasons for blogging. Others range from expanding my knowledge of the Web to being able to spell beneficial without having to look it up. Writing organises ones thoughts and the entire archive of blogs would act as a back up to the memory.
A blog is a type of online journal or diary that can be frequently updated. Blogs can be about anything in particular or nothing at all: You can blog about your daily activities or travels and let your family and friends know what you’ve been up to lately, or you can get your views and opinions out in the world and develop a community of like-minded readers. Blog software is easy to use. Simply write your thoughts, link to resources, and publish to your blog, all at the push of a few buttons.
Eight million Americans maintain their own blogs. The social networking Web site MySpace, on which men, women, and children post about themselves and their interests, has more than 50 million registered users and was adding 4 million new members a month at the end of last year. Blogs seem to enrich the classrooms in several ways. It helps understanding the students better in a better way. Because the students choose the topics on which to write, their blogs serve as a window into their lives. Often, students choose to post on personal subjects such as attempts to quit smoking, long-distance relationships, and sex. Reading their blogs helps the teachers and parents to stay connected to what’s important to the students.
Students can learn about each other’s thoughts and lives through their blogs and relate to each other more closely than if their contact was limited to the classroom. Blogs give them a forum in which to discuss and connect on what’s important to them. By writing in blogs and responding to their peers, students can experience a real audience, one who is not charged with the task of evaluating them, but who will choose to respond only if they are interested.
After formal part of class, students can reflect on day’s work or a week’s work and create blog entries as their notes. Because blogs are easy to implement and post to, they may serve as a gateway to technology for some of the students who may be uncomfortable with computers.
Blogs are proving to be a very helpful tool for coming up professionals. Companies now routinely do online searches on prospective employees through their blogs.
The weblog can be a powerful tool for reflection,communication, and community building. Blogs are an easy web publishing without needing to know much HTML. It’s a tool for personal reflection, citizen journalism, a forum for publishing your views or expertise and reader feedback. Blogs give an appearance of anonymity while allowing for human connection via commenting. Blogs are a permanent record.
People reveal things in blogs that they may not in person. Blogging can help you know team members better than face to face interactions. Blogs provide you with a chance to share your expertise and knowledge with a larger audience. An opportunity to connect with a wider audience and build a community is a strong benefit for consultants and knowledge workers. Your blogs can be monetized and hence you can have additional income. Blogs are a great platform to promote your business.
